This is personal preference. An app will launch as a single instance. A desktop will give you more of a look and feel of a ‘real’ computer i.e. Start menu, desktop etc. You will be able to access the same applications whichever option you chooses to use. Apps are generally used for quick use of a single app, whereas a Desktop is generally used for a more prolonged period of time.
You can request new applications to be made available via Desktop Anywhere here.
How do I access my department share drive?

Why do I get a black screen when I login to a Desktop?
When you launch a Desktop for the first time, you may see a black screen for around 60 seconds before your desktop is loaded. Once loaded, applications should run as normal. We are working with Citrix support to try and reduce the initial login time.
