Printing

In September 2017, Technical Services introduced a new print service, managed by AltoDigital, bringing with it a fleet of over 106 brand new multi-functional printing devices (MFD) placed around both City and St Peter’s campus to replace the existing 78 Ricoh and around 350 desktop printers, along with a brand new print centre, located in the Design Building at the City Campus, operated by Paragon on behalf of AltoDigital.

This new service brings a unified print solution for all staff and students at Sunderland, built on the same technology used in the Murry and Prospect Library for students for numerous years (PaperCut) - so we knew the new service would be amazing for our staff too!

The new print centre can provide specialist and bulk print services and is the first point of contact for any issues with MFDs around campus; visit the contact site for more information.

Some key visions of the print project were to introduce some fantastic new features to improve the user experience and flexibility of printing; this included follow-me and hold-release print using your campus card, which brings improved confidentiality and reduced wastage.  Staff and Students can now also print from any device, including their own personal devices, and collect their print jobs from any of the new MFDs around campus when it suits them (as long as it’s within 24 hours); users working from off campus can even print documents ready to collect when they come on campus.

User’s using either Citrix, a University Desktop Service (UDS) or a Student Desktop Service (SDS) computer users simply just need to print their documents to the new “Black & White” or “Colour” printer from within an application like Microsoft Word.

Or if using a personal or mobile device, simply go to https://printonline.sunderland.ac.uk/ to print from a web browser.

In addition you can also print via email: simply attach the document you wish to print to a blank email and send it to printonline@sunderland.ac.uk - make sure you set the Subject to either P:Black and White or P:Colour – you will get an email confirmation if your email was processed successfully ready to collect from a MFD.
