Working Together

The digital world has provided us with unprecedented opportunities to work together - to share resources, meet and discuss online, communicate news and discoveries and collaborate on our work. Technical Services design, provide and maintain the services that let staff and students across all of our campuses get the most from these exciting possibilities and realise their full potential.

What we do

In addition to the web-related services and email system used by our staff and students, we also look after the infrastructure platform which provides all of the administrative and support networks our staff and students need.

We ensure seamless integration between departments, handling everything from finance and human resources, through to student records (SITS) and our virtual learning environment (Canvas), which is used for everything from timetables to lecture notes and other shared resources.

We are also experts in using digital technology in teaching and learning, and advise on using new technology for outreach, engagement and research.

We manage the telephone system and associated audio-conference facilities and our unified communications service, Skype for Business. Our team has the expertise required to ensure real-time communication between staff and students, in our various locations around the world, so that students in our remote centres can enjoy the same experience and level of support on offer at our main campuses here in Sunderland.

Our services are constantly monitored and maintained, upgraded and developed to meet the evolving needs of our staff and student community. Support is available via our helpdesk to everyone so that we solve as many problems as possible as fast as they arise.
