Your university email service is now in Office 365.

The below settings are only if you need to access to your old university Google email account.
Logging in to your Gmail Account
When you log in to your Gmail account, you will be asked for your email address, this is in the following format yourusername@research.sunderland.ac.uk. You will then be asked to enter your password.
Connection settings
You can use the following information to configure IMAP with many mail clients.
Web Based Email
To connect to the web based email, please goto http://mail.sunderland.ac.uk/
Server Details
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server (requires SSL) | Server: imap.gmail.com Use SSL: Yes Port: 993 |
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server (requires TLS/SSL) | Server: smtp.gmail.com Use Authentication: Yes Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL) Port: 465 or 587 |
Email Address: | Your full email address e.g. username@research.sunderland.ac.uk |
Username: | This is the same as your email address e.g. username@research.sunderland.ac.uk |
Password: | Enter your usual ITS password |
Please note: if your client does not support SMTP authentication, you won't be able to send mail through your client using your @research.sunderland.ac.uk address.
Also, if you're having trouble sending mail but you've confirmed that encyrption is active for SMTP in your mail client, try to configure your SMTP server on a different port: 465 or 587.
