The eduroam(UK) service provides an infrastructure that allows Sunderland Students and Staff, to use their own credentials to gain wireless network access on campus or when visiting participating organisations. A list of participating organisations can be found here.
To connect to eduroam Wi-Fi on campus:
eduroam is available in all locations across campus. Search for available Wi-Fi networks on your device.
Choose eduroam
Login with the following
userid@student.sunderland.ac.uk - for students
userid@sunderland.ac.uk - for staff
for example (ab0abc@student.sunderland.ac.uk and ab0cde@sunderland.ac.uk )
and your password is your University account password.
Connecting your device
Connect to eduroam on a Windows computer
- Select the networks icon in the taskbar, usually bottom right of the screen next to the clock
- Select 'eduroam' from the list of Wi-Fi connections.
- Click 'Connect'.
- Enter your userID@student.sunderland.ac.uk (for students) or userID@sunderland.ac.uk (for staff) and your University password.
- Click 'OK'.
- If you see a 'Windows Security Alert' window, make sure to click 'Connect' to accept the eduroam security certificate.
Connect to eduroam on your Mac
- Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar.
- If Wi-Fi is off, select 'Turn Wi-Fi on'.
- Select 'eduroam' from the list.
- Enter your university details as above and your password.
- Click 'Join'.
- If you see a 'Verify Certificate' window, click 'Continue' to accept the eduroam security certificate.
Connect to eduroam on your iPhone or iPad
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap 'Wi-Fi'.
- Select 'eduroam' from the list.
- Enter your university details as above and your password.
- Tap 'Join'.
- If you see a 'Certificate needed...' alert, tap 'Accept Certificate' to accept the eduroam security certificate.
Connect your Android/Chromebook device to eduroam
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap 'Wi-Fi'.
- Select 'eduroam' from the list.
- Set 'EAP Method' to 'PEAP'.
- Set 'Phase-2 authentication' to 'MSCHAPV2'.
- Leave 'CA certificate' as '(unspecified)'or Do not Validate. This may vary on OS version.
- Set 'Identity' to your university email address.
- Leave 'Anonymous identity' blank.
- Set 'Password' to your university password.
- Tap 'Connect'.
- If you see a 'Security Certificate' alert, follow the on-screen instructions to accept the eduroam security certificate.
To connect to eduroam WiFi at another institution
Within your WiFi settings choose eduroam
To connect to eduroam, you need:
- your university email address, like ab0abc@student.sunderland.ac.uk
- your university password
for example userid@student.sunderland.ac.uk(ab0abc@student.sunderland.ac.uk)
and your password is your University account password.
